Vance Thomas Hoffman, aka Free, came into this world on Sept 15,1978, to mother Ruth Rogers and father George Di Matteo (deceased). Vance was born in Massachusetts and raised in Sacramento, California. His rap career began in the mid 90's, with influences by such artists as BLACK MOON, HELTAH SKELTAH, KRS-ONE, D-NICE, DOUGIE FRESH, SLICK RICK, SPECIAL ED, RUN-DMC, EPMD, BEASTIE BOYS, KWAME and many more! His original artist name was Poo Mac when he formed the group "The M.A.C." (Mackin Ass for Cash). Over time, the group went their separate ways and Poo Mac joined a well known Boston group of MC's called the "Mystic Derelicts", which consisted of five artist; R.A.W, JUSTICE, BEAST, WILBZY ROX and himself. The group went on to collaborate with R&B success, Az Yet, Terry Robinson (Son of Smokey Robinson) and a few more well known individuals in the music industry. Once again, the group "Mystic Derelicts" had a short lived success and began fall to apart. Yet again, forced to go at it alone, Poo Mac revised and revamped his artistry and changed his name to Free-Styles (later shortened to Free) and formed a group with an undeniable talent called "The Chase Boyz", known for chasing women and money, with co-founder Yung Piff (Michael Wilder). The Duo went on to record with the likes of Mr. Cheeks (Lost Boys), Mark Wahlberg's "The Funky Bunch, A.O. The Anomaly, Championz, R.A.W (former member of the Mystic Derelicts), DJ Cruz (former member of Ed O.G and The Bulldogs), Big Suge (former member of GangStarr's The Militia), Young Hersch, Super Producer | Artist known as JustDre and so many more incredible artists. Chase Boyz went on to release the title track "We Grande" which aired on over 60 radio stations worldwide, and held the #1 spot for 2 weeks straight in the U.K. which led to a successful tour. Come 2014, Vance met with young up and coming Director "The Visual Guru" who has worked in countless Music Videos, Films & Commercials. The two have collaborated on several Visuals and are revamping Vance's style once again, only this time, visually. Currently, Vance, a.k.a. Free The Rapper is working on his first solo album entitled "Money For War" and will soon drop his long anticipated Mixtape entitled "Red Cloud$". Stay tuned for one of the hottest artists of 2014.
